Irrawaddy – Incidental Architecture – Built by Avalon Constructions.

Irrawaddy is located on Gamaragal land but the name of this project “Irrawaddy” is derived from Burma’s largest river. A home for Eight, lightly touching the ground, open to seasonal change, and beautifully built with a palette of Australian Hardwood, sandstone, and cement.

A carefully designed & crafted house with an internal courtyard, and a balance of shared and private spaces. This special residential project on Sydney’s Lower North Shore is a base from which the occupants can launch into the world or retreat from it.

Avalon Constructions was responsible for delivering this detailed build designed by Incidental Architecture. Hardwood timber has been incorporated throughout the interior and is extensively used in the frame and structure. Cement sheet, formed concrete, and hardwood timber details & joinery finely toleranced deliver on the intent of Incedentials design.

Construction and engineering are on show, and utilised in the final finish inside and out - blackbutt timber, exposed brickwork, textured rendered walls, handmade tiles, I-beams, brass insertions, polished concrete floors, and large hidden cavity doors & screens all have been united by an attitude of caring for the details.
